Making Trades, Local.
The idea for this project was to design and mock up a mobile application that was geared to a specific demographic or niche. One of the primary areas I believed had some issues was home and auto repair/maintenance. To find an affordable, reliable, and trustworthy company or contractor could be very difficult even with websites like Angie's List. I needed the app to function and aim for my own set of objectives; the app needs to include a GPS, simple to use navigation, a system where users can leave reviews, and a way to contact companies and contractors from within the app itself. What I came up with was By the Trade, a new way to find a trade near you. The menu is broken down 9 key trades: carpentry, construction, electrical, hvac, landscaping, plumbing, mechanic, roadside assistance, and roofing. These trades are further broken down into sub categories based on Affiliation or Insurance, location, price, and user ratings. The use has full control to set their own preferences from user menu's, favorited companies, top overall ratings, and even an option to pull of a map on the application. Each trade is then broken down into a larger list of companies specified by the user input, if you want to see how the prototype works, just click the link below and be taken to Invision or an extension on your current browser.
